Established in 1947, Shallotte Cleaners is an icon to the community. With a reputation for excellence and service, Shallotte Cleaners has become the community’s first choice for dry cleaning, preservation and restoration services. In 1997, the Shallotte Cleaners was acquired by Allan and Cindy Cheatham, who have worked endlessly to maintain the business’ outstanding reputation.  They expanded, and opened Southport Cleaners for the convenience of those living in the Southport/Oak Island area.  As an even greater convenience, they have started a complimentary pickup and delivery service that serves the local area.

Allan and Cindy are more than business owners; they are part of the community. Allan belongs to the Rotary Club, and Cindy, the South Brunswick Islands Woman’s Club. Both Shallotte and Southport Cleaners are members of their respective Chambers of Commerce, and you can frequently see Allan and Cindy participating in fund-raising events in and around the area for charities, including Relay 4 Life.  They offer free cleaning services for the Coats for Kids program by Communities in Schools. Allan is the District II director for the North Carolina Association of Launderers and Cleaners, and has received the coveted Community Service award from the Rotary Club. In addition to her many duties as a business owner, Cindy is also Development Manager, Capital Campaign for Brunswick County, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter. Lower Cape Fear Hospice is a nonprofit agency that provides health care and comfort to people with life-limiting illness; support and counseling to families; and education to the community in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties.  Since 1980, the organization has served more than 20,000 patients.
